SPORTSGIRL PACKAGING
As part of a collaborative project between Sportsgirl and RMIT, I had the opportunity to create packaging designs for two products within their Beauty and Gift range. I selected three packages for the About Gloss lip product and another three for their DIY Macrame Kit. While there wasn’t a specific rationale behind choosing these particular items, I was drawn to the creative possibilities they presented. The overarching inspiration for all six designs is the ocean and its waves—an immediate association I have with summer. This connection is a bit of a stretch to call personal, but I spent two summers working at a beach bar, and those memories of sun, sea, and sand influenced the visual direction.
This project was a rewarding exercise in balancing thematic consistency with playful variation, allowing me to explore how simple design elements like shape and colour can evoke different moods while remaining cohesive across a product line.
Starting with a base palette of blues and bubble-like shapes to evoke the feeling of water, I aimed to create a fresh and lively look that would resonate with the product’s summer vibe. To add variation while maintaining consistency across the series, I explored alternative colour schemes and motifs for the remaining packages.
For the red packaging, I replaced the bubbles with flower shapes, introducing a softer and floral element. I hear you, “but flowers are spring!” Sure, but who doesnt like a floral scent?
For the purple packaging, I incorporated star shapes, creating a dreamy, night-sky aesthetic that adds depth and contrast to the collection. Because summer, at least from my experience, is the best weather to go star gazing, as you have a clearer view.
Once the 3D model was created, I imported it into Adobe Dimension, where I applied custom graphics, textures, and lighting to create a photorealistic product display. This process not only enhanced the visual presentation of the packaging but also allowed me to showcase the design in a real-world context.
